In 2006, a search was conducted for the only remaining Siberian crane, named "Omid," in the seasonal wetland of Fereydoun Kenar. Along the way, efforts were made to preserve the crane, as well as indigenous methods of catching migratory birds in the region, and the threats and dangers of wintering in the wetland for migratory waterfowl. Now, in 2015, "Omid" is no longer available and the Siberian crane is extinct in Iran.
