The Sixth Session: Throwing Prophet Joseph (PBUH) into the Well

language: Farsi | Iran |

A story of jealousy, patience, and divine testing; from the pain of separation from Prophet Joseph (PBUH) to its connection with the tribulations of Karbala

This assembly narrates the story of jealousy and the conspiracy of Prophet Joseph (PBUH)’s brothers to distance him from their father, Prophet Jacob (PBUH).

Prophet Gabriel descends to Prophet Jacob (PBUH) by God’s command and orders him to feed the needy. Simeon, Jacob’s eldest son, sacrifices a sheep at the command of his father and feeds the needy in the city of Canaan with his brothers. At this feast, Prophet Jacob (PBUH) ignores the needy and praises Prophet Joseph (PBUH). On the one hand, this behavior deprives the beggar of food and on the other hand, it ignites the fire of jealousy of the brothers towards Joseph.

Gabriel informs Prophet Jacob (PBUH) of a bitter event in the future. Another night, Prophet Joseph (AS) tells his father his dream, and Prophet Jacob (AS) interprets it as a kingdom and a bright future.

The brothers, at the instigation of Simeon, trick their father into allowing them to take Joseph to the desert for a walk. In the desert, they cruelly and cruelly keep Prophet Joseph (AS) thirsty, whip him, strip him of his clothes, and throw him into a well.

Simeon sends a shepherd to report to him what is happening at the well. Shortly after, a caravan passes by. The merchant sends his servant to fetch water from the well. The servant drops the bucket into the well, and Prophet Joseph (AS) is pulled out of the well. The shepherd tells Simeon about this incident. Shimon goes to the merchant and introduces himself as the owner of Joseph through trickery. The merchant buys Joseph (AS) from him and takes him as a gift to the court of the Egyptian prince.

The brothers return to the Prophet Jacob (AS) and, through deception and deceit, claim that a wolf has torn Joseph to pieces. They show Joseph's bloody shirt to their father. The Prophet Jacob (AS) calls the wolf and, by God's command, the wolf speaks and tells the truth of the story. The Prophet Jacob (AS) laments the oppression of his children against Joseph and weeps in sorrow at his separation.

In the end, Gabriel descends to Prophet Jacob (AS) by God's command and reminds him that although he is grieving the loss of a son, Imam Hussein (AS) lost 72 of his closest friends and family members in Karbala, and the pain of that tragedy was much more heartbreaking and profound.
