Seventh Assembly: Mutawakkil Bani Abbas

language: Farsi | Iran |

A story of hostility towards the shrine of Hussein and the perseverance of those who love pilgrimage; from the cruelty of Mutawakkil to the dignity of the Master of Martyrs (AS)

This assembly is the story of the destruction of the shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) on the orders of Mutawakkil, the Caliph of the Abbasids, and the perseverance of those who love him in the path of pilgrimage.

Mutawakkil, the ruler of Baghdad, who harbors a grudge against the Banu Hashim family, orders his minister in his court to ban the pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (AS) throughout his territory and to destroy the shrine of the Imam. The minister tries in various ways to prevent the movement of the caravans of pilgrims, but he fails every time; because the desire of the believers to visit the shrine of the Master of Martyrs (AS) increases day by day.

Meanwhile, Bahloul and Zayd, who mourn Imam Hussein (AS) and his loyal companions, drive themselves crazy and travel long distances to Karbala for pilgrimage, but are caught, imprisoned, and tortured by Mutawakkil's agents.

Mutawakkil once again orders that anyone who goes to visit Imam Hussein (AS) must pay tribute to the court. Despite this, the caravans of pilgrims disregard the Caliph's order and set off for Karbala. An elderly woman also comes to visit to fulfill her vow, but the agents imprison her, take her years of suffering and hardship as tribute, and flog her.

The old woman calls upon Imam Hussein (AS) for help. By God's command, the Imam appears to her and calms her heart. When the executioner intends to kill the old woman, Hazrat Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas (a.s.) comes to her aid, moves the guard away from the old woman, and then tells her the story of the Ashura incident.

Mutawakkil orders for the third time that the pilgrimage to Imam Hussain (a.s.) is prohibited and from then on, one person is to be killed for every two pilgrims. In one of the pilgrims' caravans, an old man and his son are caught by Mutawakkil's agents, and the executioner cuts off the boy's head. The old man pours water on his son's body and expresses his longing to visit the grave of Imam Hussain (a.s.).

At the height of the old man's grief, Imam Hussain (a.s.) appears to him by divine permission and brings his son back to life. The father and son, filled with gratitude and faith, set out to visit the shrine of the Master of Martyrs (a.s.).
